Recently, one of our Project Engineers, Jessica Jenkins spent a day with Point View Primary School students as part of our company's contribution to Futureintech.

Futureintech is an IPENZ initiative and an organisation that is contracted to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise to promote careers in technology, engineering and science.

Our role with Futureintech is aimed at assisting to increase the proportion of civil engineering enrolments in tertiary study, while raising the profile of civil engineering and offering school students realistic learning experiences. We believe this to be an important contribution in the future of our industry.

Jessica spent the day with the kids designing their new waterwheel. It was a fun day for everyone and the children thoroughly enjoyed Jessica's engineering lesson, as well as hearing about her role at Hurlstone Earthmoving.

FutureIntech Facilitator, Gay Watson, was thrilled with how the day went ...

" ... thank you very much for taking time out of your work day last Tuesday to visit the group of mini engineering students at Point View School. I thought you ran your lesson extremely well....I believe you are a born teacher!

For a first time visit this lesson had such variety.....first of all your career pathway talk, then the site visit which ended up being a bit of challenge to measure up, but you took it in your stride with lots of different activities for the students to do and tools for them to try out and then back into the classroom using the white board to work out the maths and drawings!

Well done Jessica, I was impressed, and I believe the students got a lot out of the day too."
