The Stonefields Aggregate Crushing project involves the crushing and stockpiling of 9,000m3 of GAP40 and 5,000m3 of GAP65 aggregates for use in the construction works at the Stonefields site for client Landco Mt. Wellington. Hurlstone's Mobile Jaw Crusher, Mobile Cone Crusher and Mobile Screen are all in operation on the project, as well as 988B & 980G Cat Wheel Loaders, a 50 ton Cat Excavator and 20 ton Excavator fitted with a rock-breaker to deal with over-sized rocks. Stone is at the heart of Landco's concept for the area. The bluestone aggregate previously quarried from this site has provided much of the basalt used as building materials for the Auckland region. This stone was used to build what are now some of Auckland's historic buildings, including the Town Hall, St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Symonds Street, the Melanesian Mission at Mission Bay and even some of the steps up to the One Tree Hill monument. Quarrying has left an impressive stone cliff along the western edge of the site, providing a magnificent backdrop for the lakes and recreational reserve areas of the new community - a key focal point of Stonefields. Stone from the site will also feature in roads constructed within the project, plus providing numerous decorative features in the community.
