| Tetleys Quarry Overburden Removal |
| Projects - Completed Projects |
|
Hurlstones have completed operations for the Hauraki District Council at their Tetleys Quarry site at Waitakaruru. The contract was a Quarry Stripping project that started in July, 2008 and was completed in November 2008. The project involved stripping of 105,000m3 of overburden from the north eastern face and carting the material through the existing Quarry operations to an on-site Tip Head. The material at Tetleys is a greywacke metal and the intention of the Stripping Operation was to expose approx. 1 million tonnes of aggregate, which equates to about 3 years production. Initial start-up of the project involved installation of erosion and sediment controls, contruction of 220m rock toe drain, constructing access roads and preparation of the fill area. The fill site is adjacent to a stream and all works had to comply with Environment Waikato resource consents and get sign-off prior to commencement of the Stripping Operation. With a long down-hill haul to the fill area, Hurlstones utilised their Cat 40 ton Ejector Dump Trucks to maximise production and minimise disruption to existing Quarry traffic. The Tip Head is a compacted fill, and when the contract was completed, this area was utilised to increase the capacity of aggregate stockpiles.
