Perry Aggregates Quarry Stripping

Hurlstones’ has recently undertaken a Quarry Stripping Program by running 2 Earthworks crews for Perry Aggregates at their Waingaro Rd Quarry, Ngaruawahia and their Te Henga Quarry in Waitakere, Auckland. The Waingaro Rd quarry produces 35% of all aggregates for the Waikato region and has been in operation for over 30 years.

The Waingaro Rd Quarry project involved removing 115,000 BCM of clay and carting downhill to fill in a large gully area, as well as 500m of drainage network, formation of a settlement pond, building haul roads, and stripping & re-spreading of topsoil. The project had been completed in February, 2008 and was finished on time, on-budget and with no Safety incidents. Due to Hurlstones’ performance at this site, they were recalled to continue the project in March with a further 60,000 BCM of clay to be stripped which has been completed in May.

The Te Henga Quarry Stripping contract commenced in February, 2008 and involved the removal of 150,000 BCM of clay and sandstone, formation of a large waterway and building of haul roads. This project was undertaken in a very challenging environment with tight resource consent restrictions and was due for completed in July, 2008. The contract was completed on time and on budget.
